Evelyn was born in Pittsville, WI on January 15, 1922 to Max Schiller and Elsie Werth Schiller. She went to be with our Lord and Savior on July 18, 2014. Evelyn married W.C. "Bill" Walker in 1939 in Wisconsin and moved their three sons Al, Kenny and Lee to Midland, TX in 1947 where they lived for three years when Superior Oil transferred Bill to Shafter, CA where her daughter Phyllis and son John were born. While making a home for her husband and 5 children, she became active in her community working with friends on bringing Trinity Lutheran Church to Wasco, CA and volunteering her time at the Convalescent Hospital, helping to start the Shafter Senior Center later named in her husband's honor, together with her husband they helped to start the Shafter Chapter of AARP. Evelyn loved working in the garden, loved playing cards with family and friends, enjoyed Bingo and supporting her family in their activities. Although she was a homemaker she along with her children worked in the fields and sheds working with grapes, cotton and potatoes. In addition, she worked as a nanny/housekeeper for several Shafter families, who over the years they all came to love each other as if they were family. Giving came as naturally as breathing to Evelyn and the list of those she considered to be"her" family just kept growing as the years went by. She is survived by her son Kenny Walker and wife Judie, daughter Phyllis Hook, son John Walker and wife Wendy, grandson Brent Walker and wife Pam, granddaughter Kim Barbour and husband Clyde, grandson David McCuen and wife Julie, granddaughter Wendy Ahlman, grandson Kenny Walker, grandson Tony Mullen, granddaughter Laura Wolfe and husband Matt, grandson Clay Walker and wife Bethany, granddaughter Melissa Walker, 17 great grandkids, 3 great great grandkids with 1 more due this August, 1 sister, 1 brother, and the large extended Walker family. Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Bill Walker, son Al Walker, son Lee Walker, great granddaughters Siri and Skylar Walker, her Mother, her Father and 12 brothers and sisters. Evelyn's viewing will be held at Peters Funeral Home located at 844 E. Lerdo Highway, Shafter, CA on Wednesday, July 23rd from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, July 24th at Shafter Memorial Park located at 18662 Santa Fe Way, Shafter, CA.
