IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Evelyn Ruth
Meyer
August 23, 1927 – November 2, 2009
Evelyn passed away suddenly on November 2, at Kaiser Hospital in Vallejo, California. Evelyn was born on August 23, 1927 in Bessie, Oklahoma. She attended elementary schools there and then graduated from high school in the nearby city of Cordell. She met her husband, Roger Meyer, at a young people's convention in 1946. They were married in Bessie on December 29, 1947. Roger and Evelyn lived in Oklahoma until 1955 and then moved to Wichita, Kansas. In 1961, the family relocated to Wasco, California, near Bakersfield. After her children were raised, Evelyn took oil painting classes and pursued her love of portraying country scenes and barns, gifting each of her children with one of her originals. In May of 2003, her husband of 56 years passed away. Shortly after Roger's death, Evelyn moved to Shafter, California for a short time and then in 2004, was welcomed to Vallejo California, to reside close to her two daughters. Evelyn enjoyed her life in Vallejo at Merrill Gardens Senior Residence. She played Bingo, attended craft classes, and socialized with the residents there. She found pleasure in playing the piano, crocheting and working crossword puzzles as well, and was also an avid Scrabble player. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters, one brother and grandson. She is survived by daughters, Katherine Ellis (Bill) of Benicia, California and Sharon Kaufman (Robert) of Vallejo, California; son, Richard Meyer (Judy) of Bakersfield, California; sister, Irene Reiswig of Bakersfield; fourteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; a great-great grandson; also numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A graveside service was held on Saturday, November 7th at 10 a.m. at Wasco Memorial Park, under the direction of Peters Funeral Home.
