Our loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother has joined her beloved husband, Gifford and her 13 brothers and sisters in heaven. Evelyn was born in Edgely, North Dakota into a large, loving family. In 1934 she and her sister hitch-hiked from Dubuque, Iowa to Los Angeles. She met her husband on the trip and they were married for 34 years until his death in 1969. Evelyn and the family moved to Bakersfield in 1946 and she worked at home as a seamstress making costumes for dance studios, band uniforms and school uniforms. Evelyn was a founding member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. She was active in all aspects of parish life including the Women's Guild, OLPH School, the Legion of Mary and other Church organizations. After her husband's death she worked for Kern County in child care services for 10 years until her retirement in 1973. She never retired from being a MOM. She mothered 4 children and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the "ultimate mother to all" even worrying about her children's needs until the end. She had many interests in life but the main ones were her family and her faith. Surviving to cherish Evelyn's memory are her 4 children, 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. There will be a closed casket visitation at 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 18 with a rosary following at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 124 Columbus Street. A funeral Mass will be held at 12 Noon on Friday, October 19 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Graveside services will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Church Parish School, 124 Columbus Street, Bakersfield, Ca. 93305.
