Eva Irene Fries was born June 15, 1920 in Whitefield, OK, to parents John Henry and Eva Belle Hanner. Eva was raised and attended schools in Oklahoma; after high school she married Andy Boyd. The couple worked various seasonal agriculture jobs before moving to California and settling in Wasco in 1952. Andy Boyd passed away in 1964, and a few years later Eva remarried to Ted Fries in Santa Maria, CA, in 1968. Eva and Ted lived in Santa Maria for a short time before relocating back to Shafter, where the couple opened Fries Bakery. Eva enjoyed quilting and making pepper-nuts with the women's group at Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church where she and Ted attended. The couple enjoyed traveling in their motor home and going on cruises together with friends. Eva was a huge Lakers fan and also enjoyed gathering with friends to play Rummikub. Eva was preceded in death by her husbands, Andy Boyd and Ted Fries; her parents John and Eva; her brother, Gene; and sisters, Ora, Marie, Anna and Mildred. She is survived by her daughters, Betty Crook, Joann Church and Glenda and her husband Earl Gates; as well as, a step-daughter, Melanie Rosales. Eva is also survived by a brother, J.B. Hanner; her grandchildren, Cindy Graves, Krystal and husband Bobby Stewart, Kyla and husband Wayne Lee, Jeff Gates and wife Ronni, Shannan and husband Dan Lindini, and Jason Fries; great grandchildren, Ryan, Heather, Justin, Jarrett, Alyssa, Bailey,Taylor,Brody and Jency; and great-great grandchildren, Dakota, Nathan and Rylee. Funeral services will be held April 12, 2012 beginning at 11am at Peters Funeral Home in Shafter. Pastor Pat Coyle will officiate the service and interment will follow at Wasco Memorial Park. The family wishes to extend our gratitude to the wonderful staff at Westchester Gardens for helping take such good care of our mother, thank you.
