Obituary

Eulalia Velasco was born December 10, 1920 in Raymondville, Texas to Jose and Francisca Lopez. Lala married Leopoldo "Polo" Velasco November 3, 1945 and they moved to McFarland in 1953, settled in Wasco in 1955 and were blessed with 6 children. They opened the Rancho Café on Hwy 46 in September of 1954 and retired in 1975. They were famous for the enchilada sauce and the customer's favorites were the combination plates. Lala and Polo were the only cooks and worked very hard to make their business a success, at one time or another, all the children worked at the café. Shortly after retirement, Polo passed away and Lala became active at St. John's Church serving as a Eucharistic minister and other duties until Msgr. Riccomini retired. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary Club and served as Sergeant of Arms. Lala also enjoyed crocheting and made doilies and even a bedspread for her daughter. Lala was very family oriented and helped to raise her granddaughter, Angela. To all of Angela's friends she was known as "Abuela". Eulalia was preceded in death by her husband Leopoldo Velasco in 1977 and grandson, Joseph in 1990. She is survived be her sons; Leopoldo "Leo" Velasco, Jr. of Wasco Oscar L. Velasco and his wife Connie of Porterville, Alejandro "Hondo" Velasco of Tucson, Arizona and Everardo "Lalo" Velasco of Shafter; daughters; Viola Velasco and husband Rodney Sloan of Bakersfield and Margarita Allen and her husband David of Bakersfield; 7 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren; and many other loving family members. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at Peters. Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at 7 pm for Eulalia Velasco, age 88 of Wasco, who passed away May 9, 2009 in Bakersfield. Mass of the Christian Burial will be said May 13, 2009 at 10 am at St. John's Catholic Church. Father John Fluetsch will officiate the service and interment will follow at North Kern Cemetery District in Delano.
