Obituary

Faye Holbert passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023 in Bakersfield, CA at the age of 85.

She was born on December 26, 1937 to Lois Jackson & Velia (Ruth) Wimbish in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Faye came to California with her mother and her brother, Mack Wimbish in 1944. She attended Di Giorgio Elementary, Mountain View Middle School, and Arvin High School. Faye graduated from Arvin High school in 1956. On January 12, 1957, she married her high school sweetheart, Joe Holbert. They were married for 56 years.

Upon graduating from high school, Faye was working at Bank of America in Arvin. She later went to work for Vineland Elementary School in 1969 as a classroom aide. In 1972, she became the Vineland School District Bookkeeper. She retired in 1993, after 24 years of service. After retiring from the school district, Faye went to work at the family business, JoRonCo.

Faye was very active in her community, and always ready to lend a helping hand. She was a member of the Lamont Women's Club for 40 years (President, as well as all other offices multiple times). Faye loved serving with all the other ladies in the club, and thoroughly enjoyed her time with them. She was a South Kern Cemetery District (Arvin) Board member for many years, where she was instrumental in helping to annex several square miles of the district to allow more Kern County residents to utilize the cemetery.

Over the years, she received several awards of recognition. Faye was named the Lamont Woman of the Year twice. The first time in 2009, and a few years later she and Joe were recognized as the Man & Woman of the Year. She received an award in 2018 for coordinating the Dust Bowl Celebration at Sunset School. Faye also served as Treasurer for the revitalization of the original buildings at Sunset Camp from the Dust Bowl Migration. In 2018, she received the 1st Lamont Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award.

Faye enjoyed travelling in the family motorhome. She belonged to a large camping group, comprised of many close friends and work colleagues. Pismo Beach and Balch Park were some of the closer destinations, but they would also go to Pinecrest, Mammoth Lakes, and Laughlin, NV.

Faye was very active and involved with her children's school activities. She served in the Vineland/Sunset PTA, Arvin HS Band boosters, and the 4H Club. Faye was always volunteering to supervise and chaperone multiple school field trips. Later on, when she had grandchildren, she would attend many school activities and functions, regardless of how long and far she had to go to be there. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Whatever her kids and grandkids were involved in, she was right there with them!

Faye is survived by her children, daughter Cindy (Adrian) Agundez, daughter Chris (Jerry) Walkowiak, son Ron (Jennifer) Holbert, grandchildren Ben (Tiffani) Walkowiak, Joey (Samantha) Agundez, Katie (Brandon Eddines) Walkowiak, brother Mack (Dorothy) Wimbish, nephew Rick Wimbish & Family, and niece Tina Wimbish Allen & Family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joe, her parents Lois and Velia, father‐in‐law William Lee Holbert, and mother‐in‐law Mildred Holbert.

The family would like to thank Dr. Emmanuel Strategos and his staff for providing the best care.

They would also like to thank the staff and residents at Magnolia Place, and Hoffman Hospice.
