Estel James Mathews 1935 - 2008 Graveside services are today Tuesday, September 9th, 1:00 p.m., at Shafter Cemetery. A Reception will follow at Valley Baptist Church. Estel James Mathews was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on August 28, 1935 to Jim and Ira Mathews and passed away on September 6, 2008. His family moved to Shafter, CA when he was 14 years old. Estel was a graduate of Shafter High School. He began working for W.B. Camp at the age of 14 and, except for a brief time with the United States Army, continued until his retirement, at age 65, from D.M. Camp. Estel was happily married to Doris West in 1955 and they had 25 years together until her passing in 1980. He raised two sons that were born on the same date but three years apart, Carl in 1960 and John in 1963. Estel also has three grandchildren, Derek (Tiffany), Scott (Sarah), and Ashley. Estel will be missed by those who loved him most.
