Ernest Enriques Barela was born on February 14, 1929, to Santiago and Dionisia Barela in Los Angeles, California. He came to Shafter in 1939, and served his country in the United States Army from 1950-52. He married Angela Nieto on October 5, 1953, and they were lifelong members of St. Therese's Catholic Church. Ernest was preceded in death by his wife, Angie in 1994, and son, Eddie. He is survived by his sons, Robert and Henry Barela of Tustin, Ca, Anthony and Raymond Barela of Shafter; daughters, Rosalie Plaza of Shafter and Peggy of Bakersfield; and many other loving family members. Recitation of the Holy Rosary was held at Peters Funeral Home on Monday, April 16, 2007, at 7pm, for Ernest Enriques Barela, age 78, of Shafter, who passed away April 10, 2007, in Shafter. Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at 10am. Father Pedro Umana of St. Therese's Catholic Church officiated at the service and interment followed at Shafter Memorial Park. Please sign
