Erna A. Nichols, a 11-year resident of Twentynine Palms, California died at home Thursday, July 22, 2010. She was 84 years old. The daughter of Karl and Sophia Schroeder, she was born July 7, 1926 in Mecklestedt, Germany. She worked at Drake University as a chef. She was an avid doll collector. Her husband of 30 years, Ronald Nichols, preceded her in death 11 years ago. She is survived by her sister Hertha Richter of Toms River, New Jersey, a daughter Emmy Humphrey of Quinter, Kansas, and daughter Martha Snider of Joshua Tree, California. She had 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was loved and cherished by her family and friends and will be deeply missed. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at Desert Congregational Church in Twentynine Palms. Pastor Bob Whaley is scheduled to officiate. Funeral services were arranged with and coordinated by Wiefels Mortuary in Yucca Valley. Interment will take place at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines, Iowa at a later date.
