IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Enrique
Maldonado
September 21, 1951 – January 22, 2026
It is with heavy sadness, that we announce the passing of Andy's brother and our uncle
Enrique Maldonado Jr, who passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Thursday January, 22, 2026 in Bakersfield, CA
Henry was born on September 21,1951 to Enrique Maldonado Sr. and Delores "Lola" Maldonado. He grew up on a small ranch near Buttonwillow, California, in a two bedroom home overflowing with siblings, laughing and love.
That little house became the backdrop for countless family memories with all the nieces and nephews always underfoot and Uncle Tuna welcomed every one of us – making us laugh and reminding us, often quietly, how much we mattered and loved.
After graduating from Shafter High School, Henry worked at Highland High School, the Bakersfield City Landfill, and later in security, where he retired after many years of service. East Bakersfield was home for most of his adult life, and many remember seeing him walking the neighborhood greeting friends along the way .
Henry shared an unbreakable bond with his brother Andrew "Andy" Maldonado. They bickered, laughed, and took care of each other– a relationship that was both humorous and deeply loving
He is preceded in death by his mom and pop, his siblings; Gloria, Raymond, Carlos, Joe, Louie, Delores, his niece, Monica, his nephew Joshua ,and his great nephew J'osiah.
Henry leaves behind Andy and a large family of nieces and nephews who adore him.
Henry Maldonado affectionately known as Tuna. It was a name given to him by his brothers at birth because he looked like a tuna fish when he was born. The measure of a man is how he will be remembered. He was a son, brother, friend and Uncle. While he did not think he had a difference in our lives he made a huge impact with his nieces and nephews. His gracious smile and an affectionate laugh. More importantly he checked on his nieces and nephews to see how we were all doing individually. I don't think we knew he checked on all of us until we were together in the hospital. We all found out he checked on us. That is the love he showed us and it was unassuming and very low key, but it had a positive effect on all of our lives. We all spoke about his smile and laugh and he looked after us. Uncle Henry made a difference in our lives and a legacy that will carry on and be passed on by us. Via con Dios Uncle Tuna. Thank you for your love and being there for us . Enjoy Grandma's tamales and tortillas.
