Elvira was born August 15, 1931 in Linares, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to parents, Guadalupe and Josefina Gonzalez. She was a quiet, humble woman; a hard worker who kept employment to the age of 65. Family was everything to Elvira; she was a loyal wife, and a mother who loved to care and cook for all of her family. Her specialties of tamales and menudo were always a hit. She was loved dearly and will be missed greatly. Elvira is preceded in death by her parents, Guadalupe and Josefina; and her husband, Jose M. Martinez. She is survived by her children, Cruzie and husband Arnold De Hoyos, Joe R. Martinez and wife Carmen, Gloria and husband Mario Juarez, and Lupe Martinez and wife Susie; 9 grandchildren, 24 (and another on the way) great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. Elvira passed away July 4, 2016 in Bakersfield, CA. Visitation was held at Peters Funeral Home in Shafter, on Thursday, July 7, 2016 from 4-8pm with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6pm. Funeral Mass was held at St. Therese's Catholic Church in Shafter, on Friday, July 8, 2016 at 10am. Interment followed at Shafter Memorial Park and Father Walter Colocho officiated the services.
