Obituary

Eloy Garza, lovingly known by family and friends as “The Legend,” passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026, at the age of 73.

Eloy was born on October 30, 1952, in Raymondville, Texas. A hardworking man throughout his life, he spent many years as a truck driver, a profession that suited his independent spirit and love of the open road. He was known for his strong work ethic, his sense of humor, and his ability to make people laugh with his larger-than-life personality. True to form, Eloy often jokingly referred to himself as “The Legend,” a nickname that those who knew and loved him will forever remember with a smile.

Outside of work, Eloy enjoyed the simple things in life most — camping trips, fishing, family gatherings filled with laughter, and a competitive game of poker with his brothers and sisters, where nobody was safe from his jokes or playful trash talk. He loved being surrounded by family and created countless memories that will be cherished for generations.

Eloy also faced a long and courageous battle with ALS. Throughout his illness, he continued to show the same stubborn strength, humor, and resilience that defined his life. Even during difficult times, he found ways to make those around him laugh and remained surrounded by the love of his family and friends. His perseverance and spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who walked alongside him during that journey.

The family would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the many caregivers, nurses, doctors, and medical teams who provided Eloy with compassionate care throughout his battle with ALS including the ALS Team at UCLA, Mercy and Memorial Hospitals in Bakersfield, Kindred Hospital in Baldwin Park, Coastal View Hospital in Ventura, Ventura Coastal Medical Center, and Ventura Community Hospital. Your kindness, support, and dedication meant more to the family than words can express.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Yolanda Garza, and his parents, Jesusita and Pedro Garza.

Eloy is survived by his partner Sandy Sedillo, his daughter, Veronica Garcia and husband Danny Garcia; his son, Eloy Garza Jr.; and his cherished grandchildren, Isabella Garcia, Ian Garcia, and Jasmine Garza. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Joe Garza, Pete Garza, Mike Garza, Mario Garza, Mary Corbin, Nellie Hernandez, Bobby Zaragoza, and Jaime Garza, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Eloy will be remembered for his humor, his stories, his stubborn strength, and the love he had for his family. Though he may no longer be with us, “The Legend” leaves behind memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
