Ellen A. McMahon Services: Saturday, January 21, 11:00am A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 21, 2012, at 11:00am at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 3700 Union Avenue, Bakersfield, California, for Ellen McMahon who was welcomed into the loving arms of her Lord on December 28, 2011. Mom was born Ellen Byrne in Detroit, Michigan, on July 29, 1920, and moved to San Diego, California, as a teen. There she met her husband and best love, Hugh McMahon. They married in 1941, moved to Portland, Oregon, where Dad attended dental school, then back to San Diego after graduation, eventually relocating to Bakersfield in August 1946. Dad preceded her to glory in 1994. She is survived by her five children: son Hugh and wife Linda, daughter Toni Ward and husband Brian, son Charles and wife Pat, daughter Sandy Lampe and husband David, son Mike and wife Teri. She leaves numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren to carry on her legacy. Mom had an adventuresome spirit. She and Dad traveled... with Ireland being the highlight as they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They also took to the skies often in their Piper Twin Comanche - Dad as pilot and Mom as navigator. They were quite the team in flight and in life! Mom had a busy lifestyle with varied interests in the community, politics, and church. She knew the benefit of laughter and her smiles were plentiful. She was gifted by God and used her gifts well. The greatest was her mother's heart. Her family was her focus where she invested time and energy. Though she never finished "the book" she was always going to write, she wrote volumes on the hearts of her loved ones. Her life was full. Her life was complete.
