Elizabeth Joann was born in Tulia, Texas, on September 3, 1918, to Fred and Anna Elise Gromer. The family moved to Wasco when Elizabeth was two years old, and her father, Fred farmed 40 acres, growing grapes, cotton and alfalfa. She graduated from Wasco High School and went to work at the Wasco Creamery where she met George Bloom. Elizabeth and George were married on June 16, 1941, in Las Vegas. They lived for a few years at the Shell Oil Pumping Station, where George was employed. They eventually had a home built in Wasco, and they lived there for the next 54 years. Elizabeth worked at Sprouse Ritz and the Wasco News. Elizabeth was a member of the choir and taught Sunday school for the First Baptist Church of Wasco. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, George (2003); brothers, Harry, Elmer, Clarence, Carl, and Fred Gromer; sisters, Mabel (stillborn infant) and Dolly Siemens-Turner. She is survived by her brothers, Lloyd and Gordon Gromer; sister, Doris Quast and husband, Bob of Sonora; sons, Duane and wife, Judy; and James and wife, Eileen Bloom; daughter, Karen Siemens and husband Phil; grandchildren, Betsy and husband, Dominic Gallenti, and their children, Tessa and Dominic IV; Bryan and wife, Regina Bloom and their children, Alyssa and Caleb; Nancy and Jerry Hammond, and their children, Bryan and Shelby; Kristi Magana, and her children, A.J. and Joel; Jenel Bloom; Dan and wife, Janet Siemens; Annmarie and husband, Mark Johnson, and their children, Cortnie and Audree; A graveside service under the direction of Peters Funeral Home will be held at Wasco Memorial Park on Friday, May 25, 2007, at 10am, for Elizabeth Joann Bloom, age 88, of Wasco, who passed away May 20, 2007, in Shafter. Pastor Mike Polley of the Valley Bible Church of Shafter will officiate the service. A memorial service will be held at the Valley Bible Church 350 Pine, at 11:30am.
