IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elfrieda
Reimer
May 15, 1925 – April 20, 2015
Elfrieda Loewen Reimer was called to her eternal home on April 20th, 2015 at the age of 89. Elfrieda was born May 15, 1925 to Peter L. Loewen and Katherine (Tena) Penner in Collinsville, OK but grew up attending Williams Elementary School in the Mennonite Ebenfeld community near Hillsboro, KS, graduating from Hillsboro High School in 1942. Elfrieda attended the Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethern Church where she accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and was baptized in June of 1938. She received her A.A. degree and teaching credentials from Tabor College in 1944, and taught elementary school in the area for five years. She also taught Sunday School and sang in the church choir. Elfrieda moved to Fresno, CA to attend Pacific Bible Institute for additional schooling in 1949. It was during this time she was courted by Wallace (Wally) Frank Reimer after having previously been introduced by Elfrieda's Uncle Dan during what can only be described as a "hunting" trip Wally made to Hillsboro on a whim. They were married August 14, 1950 in the Ebenfeld Church in Hillsboro. They made their home in Shafter, CA where they farmed many different crops over the years. They were blessed with four children: son Dwight Larry Reimer, born August 4, 1951, son Peter Mark Reimer, born January 19, 1953, and daughter Elizabeth Ann Reimer, born December 12, 1956, and adopted daughter Connie Ruth Reimer, born July 17, 1963 in 1964 at the age of 10 months. Wally, Elfrieda, Dwight and Peter spent almost a year on the island of Aruba, Netherland Antilles working with The Evangelical Alliance Mission organization on a project building a radio transmission tower. Elfrieda home-schooled the boys during this time and many fond memories of island life remain to this day. Back in the states, Elfrieda found joy in cooking, sewing, entertaining family and friends, and working alongside her husband serving the Lord. They worked with Missionary Gospel Fellowship teaching Sunday School classes at what was then known as North Camp in Shafter, and also Shafter Minter Field airport, holding meetings in the old barrack buildings. She was active in the South Shafter Mennonite Brethern Church teaching Sunday school, vacation Bible school and singing in the women's trio and quartet, and also volunteering as a Pink Lady at Kern Crest Manor nka Shafter Carrington. It was around 1975 when Wally got the itch to forge a new path and bought a remote ranch in the desert near Wikieup, Arizona to try his hand at cattle ranching. Elfrieda dutifully made a home out of an old shack that, when dad first showed us kids, was being used to hang and cure sides of beef. Dwight and Peter remained in civilized Calfornia farming the home place. Several years later, Wally found an alfalfa ranch near Snowflake, Arizona (albeit 20 miles out of town, again) and another move was made. During this time they were active in the Southern Baptist Church of Snowflake and made many good friends in the Mormon community. It was when Peter, and his wife, Debby (Hiebert) Reimer, welcomed their first child, Brie, in 1981, that Elfrieda must have started strongly suggesting they move back to California. They eventually moved back into the old homestead where Elfrieda made every visitor feel welcome with delicious meals, baked goods, and cheerfulness. Beautiful hand-made quilts were lovingly constructed and given to beloved family members. She always had an embroidery sampler, baby afghan, or sewing project at hand. She loved being surrounded by the beautiful almond trees and the many other crops Wally farmed. Elfrieda was more than ready to be called home and be reunited with her brothers and sisters, son and daughter, earthly parents and her heavenly Father. She told everyone she came in contact with from doctors and hospital staff to her ongoing caregivers that she knew where she was going and was at peace. She remained the epitome of graciousness and cheerfulness, never complaining, and always appreciative of the care and attention she received from those around her. Elfrieda Loewen Reimer is preceded in death by sisters Hulda Loewen Kroeker and Blondine Loewen Schlichting, brothers Waldo Loewen and Hubert Loewen, as well as daughter Elizabeth Ann Reimer (1956) and son Peter Mark Reimer (Debby) (2008). She is survived by husband Wallace (Wally) Frank Reimer, son Dwight Larry Reimer and wife Patricia, daughter-in-law Debby (Hiebert) Reimer, daughter Connie Reimer Penner and husband Dennis, granddaughters Brie (Reimer) Kruger and husband Paul, Erin Reimer, Noelle (Penner) Arredondo and husband Marteen, Lorren Penner, and last but not least, great-grandson Samuel Kruger, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. The family would like to thank Shafter Carrington and Hoffman Hospice for their wonderful care and support, and also caregiver Ana Dominguez.
