Edward Vargas was born February 3, 1953 in Riverside, California to Manuel and Josie Vargas. He passed away on August 3rd, in Bakersfield, California with his wife Ida and daughter Stephanie at his side due to complications from Covid-19. After high school Edward enlisted in The US Marines Corps and proudly served his country. Edward loved telling stories of his Marine days to everyone. Oorah!! Edward later became a correctional officer and served at Tehachapi State Prison for 28 years where he retired. On Thanksgiving day 1977, Edward met Ida at a pub and married her months later on May 6,1978. Together they have one daughter Stephanie who with her husband Nick, gave him his one and only grandson Maverick. Edward loved Nick like his own son. Maverick was Edward's pride and joy. Edward enjoyed spending every available moment with Maverick. Edward loved filling his RV with his family and going on spontaneous adventures especially camping. He also really loved fishing. Edward was loved by numerous nieces, nephews and friends. His memory and contagious laughter will live in our hearts forever! Edward is preceded in death by his parents Manuel & Josie Vargas. Edward is survived by his wife Ida (Aguirre), of 43 years, daughter Stephanie and husband Nick Ehoff, grandson Maverick Edward James Ehoff. Siblings; Richard & Mary Vargas, Christy & John Howard, Sarah & Dave Gore, Bobby & Peggy Vargas, Manuel & Maria Vargas, Tommy Vargas, Joey & Lil Vargas. Sisters in law; Gloria Dustman, Linda De La Rosa, Clara & David Fitch, Dolores & George Marin. Funeral services will be held at Bakersfield National Cemetery, 30338 E. Bear Mountain Blvd. in Arvin, Friday, August 13th at 10:30am. Celebration of life will immediately follow.
