Obituary

Edward George Peters was born August 11, 1933 in Shafter to Elizabeth Alma (Willems) and Edward Joel Peters. He attended Maple Elementary School and graduated from Wasco High School with the Class of 1951. He went on to attend Cal Poly, but was called home to help with the family farm during his last year. Edward married Barbara Jean Siemens at the Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church on April 29, 1955 and they continued to make Shafter their home. Edward worked for the family business known as Maple Leaf Farms which also owned Maple Leaf Communications, Maple Leaf Petroleum and Wasco radio station 1050 KWSO. Love of family always came first for Ed, but music was his life's passion. His beautiful, deep baritone voice will be remembered by the many people who were blessed to hear him sing. Edward is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara Peters of Shafter; daughter, Kathe and husband Jay Winn of Bakersfield; adopted children, Russell Peters and wife Violet, Jerry Peters and Peggy Cruz and husband (Jay); 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and brother, Douglas Peters and wife Donna. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, E.J. and Elizabeth; sister, Betsy; and brother, Simon. A graveside service will be held Friday, January 4 at 10am at Shafter Memorial Park, followed by a memorial service at 11am at Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church. Pastor Pat Coyle of Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church will officiate the services.
