Rev. Edward "Butch" Johns, passed away quietly October 20, 2010 at 7:56pm, after a lengthy illness. He was surrounded by his family when he left this life for his eternal home in Heaven. Butch is survived by his wife, Wanda L. Johns of the family home; two daughters, Deborah M. Howerton of Alexandria, Louisiana and Nancy Webb of Bakersfield; 2 sons, Pastor Samuel Hensley of Mariposa and Weldon Kirk of Emigrant, Montana; 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; also numerous nieces and nephews who loved and respected him for the man he was. Butch was faithful to the Free Will Baptist denomination serving as preacher and church planter for 60 years. He currently attended the North of the River Free Will Baptist Church. A special thank you to Shafter Free Will Baptist Church; his caregiver Kelly; and Optimal Hospice and their staff, Jennifer, Margaret, June, Sid, Sheila, Lauren, Latasha, Chaplain Steve and Richard. A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 23, 2010, at 1pm at the Shafter Free Will Baptist, 155 Redwood. Pastor Sam Hensley, Pastor Bob Phillips and Pastor Patrick Palomo will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Shafter Memorial Park. A visitation will be held Friday, October 22, 2010 at Peters Funeral Home from 2pm to 8pm.
