Edna Benna Miller 06/21/1914 – 12/17/2006 Edna Benna Scantlen Miller was born June 21, 1914, in Stigler, Oklahoma and passed away December 17, 2006 in Alamo, California. Edna was preceded in death by her husband, David Miller; her daughter, Joyce Miller Meyer; her son, Kevin Miller; her parents, Ben and Ella Scantlen; her sisters Beulah, Jesse, Hazel and Lena; and her brother, Wallace. She is survived by her children, Kenneth Miller of Corning, CA; Frank Miller of Burns, Wyoming; Larry Miller and his wife, Mary of Concord, CA; Lora Ferrante of Walnut Creek, CA; her sisters, Anna Marks of Stigler, Oklahoma and Ilene Brown of Wagner, Oklahoma; her grandchildren, Scott Meyer of Bakersfield, CA; Al Meyer of Colts Neck, New Jersey; Cindy Miller; Rachel Akin of Walnut Creek, CA; William Miller of Concord, CA; Amber Miller of Concord, CA; and Teri and George Tagliferi of St. Helena, CA; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Edna grew up in Stigler, Oklahoma where she enjoyed family life on the farm, playing basketball, long walks in the beautiful countryside and reading. She and her future husband, David met at the age of five at a church picnic. They were married in 1932, and had three children before moving to Wasco, California, in the early 1940s, where the last three children were born. After moving to Shafter in 1960, David and Edna were active in local politics and the PTA. Edna volunteered for many school projects over the years. Both David and Edna were avid gardeners, and Edna worked at Germain's Rose Farm for several years helping to develop new rose varieties. She worked as an Avon representative for twenty-five years, much of that time as a regional assistant-manager. She helped many new recruits develop their Avon business. Edna was a very genuine and kind person, and never met a stranger. She was extremely loving and caring and over the years provided loving support not only to her family and friends, but to many members of the Shafter community in times of need. Following the death of her beloved husband, David in 1992, Edna moved to Walnut Creek, CA to be nearer to her children. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 26, 2006, from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Peters Funeral Home, 844 E. Lerdo Hwy, Shafter, CA 93263.
