Powell
September 28, 1919 – November 18, 2006
A combination Rosary and Mass is scheduled for Wednesday, November 22, 2006, with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary read at 9:30 a.m and Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Bakersfield. Monsignor Michael Braun will officiate. Interment will immediately follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, and reception will be held at The Noriega Hotel, 525 Sumner. Stanley "Ed" Powell was born September 28, 1919, in Oil Center, California, to Arthur and Nevada Powell. Ed was raised in Bakersfield, where he attended local schools, and graduated from Kern County Union High School. He married Dolores Joan Koelzer, March 16, 1941, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ed proudly served his country during WWII in France with the 359th infantry of the United States Army. Upon his discharge, Ed worked as a milkman and then a manager for the American News Company. The majority of Ed's career was spent as a public accountant with E.K. Williams & Company, where he was owner for 35 years. Ed was loved by many and was known as was quite a jokester. He served as an usher at St. Joseph's for 35 years and attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help for the last 10 years. Ed was a family man who looked forward to family get-togethers and lots of laughs. His favorite past-times included golf, bowling and going for rides in the car. Ed is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Nevada Thomas and his wife Dolores. He is survived by his son, Rodger and his wife Linda Powell; daughters and their husbands, Nancy and Charlie Cobb, Janey and Bruce Walsh, Joy and Tony Cordova; 1 brother, Jack and his wife Nancy Powell; nephew, Stanley Harold Powell; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Cathy Hernandez for treating our dad like her dad and to Ed's long-time friend, Mac McMurtrey.
