In Loving Memory of Easter Smothers

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Easter Smothers, who departed this life June 25, 2025 at the age of 97.

Born Easter Culver in Tahlequah, Oklahoma on Easter Sunday April 8th 1928, she was born into a family who came from Oklahoma during the dust bowl of the early 1930's to settle in the California farming community of Wasco.  Once in Wasco the Culver family lived in the Wasco Labor Camp for a period.  Easter worked several jobs in Wasco before catching the eye of our father Hoyett Smothers, who ran a small restaurant in town.  They married and had three children, all born and educated in Wasco.  Easter loved to be with friends and family and she loved to dance.  She and Hoyett traveled to Europe and Asia, even Russia and China.  Easter was a beloved mother, known for her gentle spirit and deep love for family and community.  She was a member of the Wasco Women's Club and the 1st Methodist Church.  Easter touched the lives of many through her kindness, generosity, and strength of character.

Easter is survived by her son Michael and his wife Shari Fortino, son Ronald and his wife Sonia, and her daughter Terri. Easter loved her grandchildren Brooke, Jeffrey, Chad and Zachary and had so much fun with her great grandchildren Alison, Bryan, Caitlyn, Ryan, Blakely and Theodore, not to mention her great great grandson Lukas.  Brooke and Jeffrey's mother, Mary Sue and her husband Jay Powell were always very special to Easter and vice versa.  Brooke's husband Rajko, Jeffrey's wife Stephanie, Zachary's wife Lacey, Bryan's wife Kassidy and Shari's daughter Christeal were always so good to Easter.  She was so proud they became a part of her family.

Easter was the last remaining member of her Culver brothers and sisters.  Easter was preceded in death by her husband Hoyett. She will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing and loving her.

A graveside celebration of Easter's life will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday July 2nd at Wasco Cemetery.  All are welcome to attend and pay their respects.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Hoffmann Home, and the compassionate staff at KMC, both providing an extremely high level care.

Though Easter is no longer with us in this life, her memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
