Duane was born on January 14, 1943 in Santa Paula, CA, to parents Clarence and Luara Southerland. He passed away on April 15, 2011 in Long Beach, CA. Duane was raised in the Shafter/Wasco area and worked on the family farm. He married Judy (Beal) Southerland in Shafter, on August 24, 1962. The family moved to Long Beach in 1971, where Duane worked in the home medical equiptment field. Duane is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, James Southerland; sisters, Margaret Beach and Frances Morris. He is survived by his wife, Judy Southerland; daughter, Cheryl Lynn Wintermute of Washington; and 3 grandchildren. A visitation was held at Peters Funeral Home on April 20, 2011 from 4-8pm, and graveside services were held at Shafter Memorial Park on April 21, 2011 at 2pm; Pastor Wayne Montgomery was the officiant.
