IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Doyle Lee
Amos
August 3, 1932 – May 5, 2024
Doyle Lee Amos
8/3/1932 - 5/5/2024
Doyle was born on August 3, 1932 in Quinton, OK to General Dewey Amos & Monty Amos. He was the 2nd oldest of 5 children. As a very young boy, his father passed away and the family was forced to make the long drive to California, where they settled in Shafter.
Doyle was raised in Shafter and graduated from Shafter High School. Upon graduation, he worked at a local dairy until he was drafted into the U.S. Army. After being honorably discharged, he met and married the love of his life, Demple Mitchell, his wife of 52 years, until she passed away in 2011.
His proudest achievement was working for the Richland School District for approximately 35 years. He began as a custodian/bus driver and worked up the ranks to become the Supervisor of Maintenance & Operations & Transportation. He thoroughly loved working with all the students and enjoyed his job.
In his free time, Doyle loved to garden. After retirement, he and his wife bought a 1/3 acre home in Rosedale and at any one time he would have tomatoes, peas, corn cabbage, peppers and okra growing. His garden was always beautiful and kept the family supplied in fresh vegetables. Over the years he even raised chickens, quail, pigs and turkeys. His youngest granddaughter, Rachel, loved growing up on Papa's Farm and they would spend from daylight to dusk working the garden together.
Doyle is proceeded in death by his loving wife Demple Amos; his parents General & Monty Amos; sister Joyce Ryker; sister Minnie (Bob) Burch; daughter Cheryl Mitchell; and granddaughter Rachel Slape. Survivors are daughter Vickie Berry; daughter Brenda (Delbert) Clinton; daughter Sandy (Billy) Tucker; son Dallas (Claudia) Tolbert; brother Robert (Judy) Barnhill); brother-in-law Wallace Ryker; granddaughters Tammy Colclasure, Tonya Barraza, Marisa Mitchell and Stephanie Tolbert; grandsons; Stephen Berry, David Clinton, Randy Tucker, Brian Tolbert and Travis Mitchell; numerous great grandchildren.
