Dovie was born in Oklahoma to J. H. and Ida Saunders on July 24, 1914. She married David T. Jones on October 17, 1934 in Chickasha, Oklahoma; and they moved to Shafter in 1947. Dovie was an extremely friendly person who never met a stranger. She loved to socialize with her family and her church. Dovie loved when anyone would drop by her home so she could use her cooking skills and cook up a delicious meal. Dovie was preceded in death by her husband, David, who passed away in June 1989: son, Donald Jones; her parents; 1 brother and 1 sister. She is survived by her children, Leonard and Gary and wife, Vonnie Jones; daughter, Juanita and husband, John Caton all of Shafter; grandchildren, Steve Jones, Stan Jones, Stacy Jones, Bobby Caton, Barbie Ballengee, Jeff Jones, Brian Jones, Michael Jones, Bradley Jones and Sabrina and husband, Mark Manzoni; 15 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted by Peters Funeral Home for Dovie Jones on Wednesday, January 3, 2006, at 11am, at Shafter Memorial Park; Pastor Jim Williams of the First Southern Baptist Church of Shafter officiated.
