June 11, 1941 – January 25, 2025
A Celebration of Life will be held for Dorothy (Dottie) Story 83, of Wasco, Ca, at The Wasco Elks Lodge on February 28, who passed away on January 25, 2025. Dottie was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma prematurely on June 11, 1941. She was a loving Mother, NaNa, Friend, and a beautiful soul who would help anyone. She truly knew that it was more blessed to give than to receive. Her generosity knew no bounds, proving throughout her life of being a true fighter and advocate for family and community. Her infectious laugh and radiant smile lit up any room.
After graduating Fresno High School Class of '59, she attended Fresno JC, Frederico's Beauty College, and worked at Shalimar near Roeding Park, there, she met and married Guy (Robbie) Robertson, Sr., while based at Naval Air Station Lemoore. Shortly after, he was hired by Shell Oil and transferred to Kettleman City, Ca and once again transferred to Wasco where she resided and raised/survived by her 3 children, Rochelle Howard, Nia Hunt (Steve), Guy Robertson, Jr. and grandchildren Jayme Fahy, Robin Howard, Ryan Robertson/Trisha, Joshua Robertson. Great grandchildren Kylee, Zack, Nicholas, Addison, Leighton, and Kacey, great-great grandchild Lincoln. Her heart was always open to love and take in as her own, Nate Robertson (daughter Tara & her Son), Jan Hillstead (daughter Nichole & her 2 sons), and Sharon Sharp. In 1984, she married Harold Story, and the family grew even larger with Genia Story, Chris McCurdy (Mike), Cindy Boyett (Bryan), and their children Michael McCurdy (Tiffanie), Chet McCurdy (Jill), Patrick McCurdy (Emily), Aimee Spaulding, Karlee Annan, Chelsea Koerber. And many Great grandchildren.
Dottie loved cooking for holidays, events, or anytime she could, to have family and friends gathered around her table. She also hosted many Family Reunions and Published 2 Cookbooks in which she got immense joy doing her Book Signings at Russo's bookstore in the Marketplace. She Owned/Operated Cinderella Coffee Shop, Opening Manager J's Coffee Shop, I5/Hwy 46, Lost Hills, she was then asked to complete The Management Development Program and hired to Open/Manage Denny's, Lost Hills. Owner/Operator D&H Cleaning and she most enjoyed working at Town N Country Liquors, for family life schedule and community efforts. In reality, it was seeing and laughing with the regular customers daily and meeting new friends. She loved Traveling, The Casino, Bingo, Bunco and was a Charter President and Member of The Emblem Club (Wasco Elks Lodge) today known as Wasco Elk Ladies, PTA, Wasco High Tiger Boosters, 25 yr Judge w/Kern County Fair, Alpha Beta Zeta Sorority (Gamma Beta Chapter), Salvation Army, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Kern County 4H/Cake Corral, Make A Wish Granter, Red Hatter's Society, American Cancer Relay for Life, Links to Life and Breast Cancer Organizations
She has joined her Grandson Jake Robertson, Husband Harold Story, Parents Pauline and Al Bandoni, longtime friend Lois Baumbach and many other friends and family.
Celebration Of Life will be held February 28, 2025, Wasco Elks Lodge, 16694 Wasco Ave., Wasco, Ca 93280 at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests In Honor of Our Mothers Memory, to donate to one of the above mentioned organizations. She felt strongly about opportunities "To Pay It Forward."
