Dorothy Catherine Hill was born on July 5, 1930, to Denver and Hazel Lewis in Etowah, Oklahoma. She was raised in Marked Tree, Arkansas and married Norman Hill on November 19, 1947, in Hernando, Mississippi. They couple moved to Shafter in 1949, and in 1962 they moved to Rosedale. Dorothy was a nurse's aide at Mercy Hospital on Truxtun Avenue in Bakersfield for 23 years and retired in 1993; she truly enjoyed her work at the hospital. Dorothy was a loving mother to 6 sons and 1 daughter. She loved gardening and sports of all kinds. She was a member of the Trinity Life Chapel. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Norman; sons, Earl and Don; daughter, Cathy; 1 brother and 2 sisters. She is survived by her sons, Norman, Jr., James and wife, Lynn, Buel and wife, Sandra, and Bruce Hill; 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. A graveside funeral service under the direction of Peters Funeral Home were held at Shafter Memorial Park on Thursday, October 11, 2007, at 10am, for Dorothy Catherine Hill, age 77, of Bakersfield, who passed away October 7, 2007, in Bakersfield. Pastor Ron Honea of the Canyon Hills Assembly of God Church officiated the service and interment followed. A visitation was held at Peters Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 10, 2007, from 2 to 8pm.
