Funeral services were conducted for Dorise LaVerne Scoggins, age 75, who passed away on December 1, 2006, in Shafter. She was born in Crane, Texas, to Willie and Lelah Gable on March 12, 1931. She came to Shafter in 1948, and has been a resident of Shafter for over 50 years. Dorise was a member of the Congregational Church of Shafter. Dorise was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd in 2004; grandson, Joshua Scoggins; great granddaughter, Karrie Sliver; siblings, Odeana Watson, Doc Gable and Bennie Gable. She is survived by her sons, Lloyd of Bakersfield and Steve of Shafter; daughters, Dorise and husband, Patrick Church of Riverside, Joyce and husband, John Hill of Shafter, Sandy and husband, Mike Smith of Madera, Lelah and husband, John Sharp of Shafter, Janis Beckemeyer of Shafter, Jane and husband, Dale Wiggington of Cherry Valley, Arkansas; 29 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren; brothers, Lonnie Gable, R. L. Gable, Willie Gable; sisters, Mine Fay Brandon and Delouris Johns; and numerous other loving family members. Peters Funeral Home conducted the service at the Congregational Church of Shafter, 430 E. Tulare, on Wednesday, December 6, 2006, at 10am; Pastor Mike Kotrla officiated. Interment followed at Shafter Memorial Park and Chaplain Pat Rogers of Odyssey Hospice officiated. Serving as Pallbearers were Jeremy, Jeff and Jason Hill, Kevin Sharp, Wayne and Skipp Scoggins. Honorary Bearers were Cindy Dudley, Heather Laprade, Ryea Simpson, Tessa Scoggins, Trisha Carr and Cynthia Rodriguez
