IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dora Ella
Riley
April 6, 1934 – July 26, 2009
Dora Riley passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2009; at the age of 75 after a lengthy illness. She was a resident of Evergreen Home in Arvin. Dora was born April 6, 1934 to John and Minnie Langston in Oklahoma. She moved to Arvin in her young life and grew up there. She attended Arvin High School. Dora lived in Tehachapi for the last 10 years. Dora met Walter Preston Riley in January 1952. After knowing each other for only a few days, they eloped and married January 6, 1952. Walter was paralyzed in a car accident early in their marriage and after many years of love and devotion, he preceded her in death in 1989. They were never blessed with any children but they shared many nieces and nephews, making each one feel like they were the favorite. Dora took that caring nature and became a licensed CNA. She was at the bedside of many relatives, giving them love and care in their final days. Dora is also preceded in death by her parents, John and Minnie Langston, a beloved older brother, Wilburn Langston; and two sisters, Florence Youngblood and Edith Brown. Her surviving brothers are Cyrus Langston and his fiancé, Deen Thompson; and Dwight Langston and his wife Judy, all of Bakersfield. Her sisters are Hester Girton of Arvin and Shirley Graves and her husband, Donald of Tehachapi, California. There are many nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews; many family and friends that will miss her so very much. The family would like to thank Evergreen for their care of Dora and the support they gave our family during Dora's stay and in the last hours of her life. Her service was conducted by Greg Haslow of the Bakersfield First Assembly of God. Memories of Dora were shared by family and friends. Arrangements were made by the Arvin Funeral Home. Dora was laid to rest beside her husband in South Kern Cemetery in Arvin on Wednesday, July 29, 2009.
