IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donna Lynch
Merz
August 3, 1931 – November 27, 2013
Our wonderful mother passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness, at home with family by her side. Donna was born in Hurley, South Dakota to William and Verona Dalke and came to California with her family when she was 5 years old. Donna attended Shafter schools, graduating Shafter High in 1948. On December 11, 1954, Donna married her high school sweetheart, Earl Dean Lynch. They had 3 children Gary, Erin and Laurie. Donna worked for the Richland-Lerdo School District for 23 years as a librarian. After the death of her first husband, Dean, in September 1993, she soon retired and enjoyed her many friends and grandchildren. Over the years Donna was very active in the Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church and especially enjoyed singing in the choir. Music was always a comfort to her and you could often hear her singing or humming around the house. She was also very active in the Shafter Junior Women's Club. In 2004, Donna wed a longtime friend, Robert Merz. Together they enjoyed their retirement. Donna is survived by her husband Robert Merz; brother Kenneth Dalke; her children Gary Lynch (Pat), Erin Brock (Mike), Laurie Robinson (Dean) and grandchildren Shelby, Jena, Tristan, Emily and Eric. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Verona Dalke and first husband Dean. A very special thanks to Donna's caregivers Silvia, Isabel, Melody and husband Robert, whose tireless commitment and love made it possible to stay in her home and pass this life with grace and dignity. She will truly be missed. A graveside service under the direction of Peters Funeral Home will be held on Wednesday, December 4, at 10 am at Shafter Memorial Park. A memorial service will follow at 11 am at the Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church. Viewing will be held at Peters Funeral Home Tuesday, Dec. 3, from 2pm to 8pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association – www.alz.org.
