Stephens
October 27, 1941 – May 7, 2014
Don was born in McClelland, Arkansas on October 27, 1941, and passed away May 7, 2014 in Bakersfield, California at the age of 72 after a brief illness. Don was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Maebelle Stephens of Bakersfield, daughter Lori Kirk of Oklahoma, son Jimmy Banks of Wasco, sister Linda Ogle of Bakersfield, grandson, Austin Kirk of Oklahoma and Father-in-law Jack Blair of Shafter. Don was a letter carrier for the Wasco Post Office for 35 years where he earned the nickname "Rocket" because of the speed he walked his mail route. Don was well thought of by his postal patrons over the years. He spent many hours with his best friend Jim Hart of the desert, treasure hunting. He also loved collecting coins and guns. One of his favorite pastimes was going to State Line in Nevada. He also loved watching the History Channel on TV. Don started his education in kindergarten here in Wasco and graduated from Wasco Union High School in 1960. Don is survived by wife Margaret of 42 years, daughters, LaDonna Madron (Stan) of Wasco, Melissa of Wasco, Carrie Hurley of Oklahoma, and sister, Patsy Hutson (Dwayne) of Wasco, four grandchildren of Oklahoma, along with several nieces and nephews. At his request there will be no services.
