Donald H. Averill Mechanical Engineer, 97 Donald H. Averill, a 40-year resident of California and Yucca Valley, died Aug. 4, 2010, at Ingleside Lodge assisted-living facility. He was 97 years old. The son of Plummer M. Averill and Olive Dodge, he was born Jan. 20, 1913, in Wilton, Maine. He was raised on a farm in Maine and owned and operated welding shops in that state before coming to California. Mr. Averill served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a Mechanical engineer for aircraft manufacturing with Boeing for 19 years. A member of Calvary Baptist Church, he sang in the church choir and played the trombone, baritone horn and organ. He enjoyed fishing and traveling. Mr. Averill was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Miriam. He is survived by son Dennis Averill, many nieces and nephews and a grandchild. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 9 at Calvary Baptist Church in Yucca Valley, Pastor Rob Watkins officiating. Interment will be Aug. 10 at Joshua Tree Memorial Park. Funeral services will be performed by Wiefels Mortuary in Yucca Valley.
