Obituary

Delores was born 6-25-1930 to M.H. Myrick and Mable Braddy Myrick in Sterling, Oklahoma, and passed away 5-19-2009 nearly reaching her 79th birthday, in Bakersfield, CA after a brief bout of pneumonia. Delores left OK with her family at the age of 3, riding in the back of a large enclosed truck with her mother and younger sister. Her dad and uncle drove with Shafter, CA as their destination and the hope of work. Delores graduated from Shafter High School. class of 1948. Delores married Jack Hambaroff 12-3-1948 and began working as a cosmetologist. Mom said each time she got a new job, she got pregnant. First came Joy, then Janice. After Pete was born caring for her children became her first priority. As a stay at home mom, Delores was active in PTA, Brownies and later became a Girl Scout leader. She was the mom all her children's friends enjoyed hanging out with as she always took time to listen to any concerns they had. She always had a puzzle in progress, played board games or card games at the drop of a hat, even jacks on the kitchen floor! Delores and Jack purchased the Western Auto Store in Shafter, CA in 1967. They worked side by side for 27 years. Delores never met a stranger and counted many of her customers her friends. Minnie Gonzales was a loyal and trusted employee for many of those years. Delores was the nursery care provider at Calvary Baptist Church for over 22 years. She has never been able to resist chatting with young mothers and their little ones. Delores was always a kidder, and loved to tell her doctors how cute they were. She was a lover of books since early childhood. Delores had a creative side to her and discovered oil painting with the ocean as her favorite subject. For several years she and her sister made beautiful ceramic dolls. Her collection of dolls was rather large as she just couldn't resist those cute little faces.
