Della Johnson was born April 20, 1912 in Oklahoma to Lucy (Bronson) and Dan Jones. She married Charlie Johnson in Ringland Oklahoma in 1926, they were married 48 years. They later moved to Shafter, where they lived in the same home since 1955. She worked part time in the local potato sheds and at Perkins Rose. Della loved working in her vegetable garden, she always looked forward to spring and knew exactly when to start planting for the best results. She was on top of the weeding and picking off old blooms, looking for new ones and knew each flower in her yard by name. Della enjoyed being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she gave everyone individual love. She was active in the Senior Citizens Group where she once had the honor of being crowned "Lady of the Year". She was an active member of Church of God at Smiths Corner. Della is preceded in death by her husband Charlie Johnson in 1974, parents Lucy and Dan Jones, daughter Beverly Sue, 1948; sons, Lavern, 1979 and Ralph, 2004. She is survived by Edward Johnson and his wife, Lil of Bakersfield, Gene Johnson and his wife Grace of Minco OK; daughters, Louise Smith and husband Bill of Bakersfield and Lavada Mabry and husband Gene of Porterville, 9 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 25 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services were held for Della Johnson Monday, March 02, 2009 at Peters Funeral Home at 1pm officiated by Reverend John Nalls of Church of God of Madera, CA. Visitation was Sunday, March 1, 2009.
