Darold E. Johnson, a 36-year resident of Twentynine Palms, died Feb. 20, 2009, at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs. He was 79. Mr. Johnson was born Sept. 24, 1929, in Wisconsin to Elmer "Bud" and Bessie Mathison Johnson. He served for 20 years in the U.S. Navy before retiring, then worked in Civil Service for 24 years before retiring from that job. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda; brothers Gordon, Emery, Warren and Kenneth Johnson; and sisters June Sannes, Eileen Pietrowski and Marjorie Moehring. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen Manteufel Johnson of Twentynine Palms; daughters Susan Carter and husband Tom of Albany, Wis. and Darene McGee of Victorville; sons Richard Johnson and wife Virginia of Marengo, Ill., and William Johnson of Aliso Viejo; brothers Robert Johnson of Englewood, Fla., and Ronald Johnson of Larsen, Wis.; sisters Virginia Roussin of St. Louis, Mo., Marilyn Pagel of Larsen, Carol Mueller of Neenah, Wis., and Nancy Wunderlich of Greenville, Wis.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28 at Immanuel Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Twenytnine Palms, with Pastor Joe Matoush officiating.
