Obituary

Daniel "Dave" Ortiz, 90, of Bakersfield, passed away March 23, 2007. Visitation will be held at the Hopson-Anspach Family Mortuary chapel on Thursday, March 29 from 2-9pm with an evening service at 7pm. His funeral service will be Friday, March 30 at 10am, at the Victory Outreach Church in Bakersfield. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery. Dave was born September 23, 1916 to Aurelio and Jesus Ortiz in Bakersfield. He attended local schools and married Josephine McClure August 15, 1937 in Bakersfield. Dave started working at a young age, working for Valley Auto Wrecking as a tow truck driver, Union Cemetery as a caretaker, Joe's National Market, and Bakersfield City School District. He was a member of the Shriner's Club as well, and was known for his generous nature. He enjoyed gardening, deep sea fishing, and watching boxing or wrestling. He was fond of his cockatiel bird and his dogs, but his pride and joy was working on his '54 Chevy pick-up. He was also famous for his great barbequing with his own sauce. Dave was a devoted husband and father, with a special love for his grandkids. Dave is survived by his wife of 69 years, Josie; sons, Daniel Ortiz, Jr., and Ernest Ortiz; daughters Sheila Gonzalez, Evelyn Ortiz, Lorraine Maldonado, and Janice Ortiz; nephew Ronnie Ybarra, 15 grandchildren and 50 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, David L. Ortiz, Sr.; and brother, Guadalupe Ybarra.
