Knapp
December 21, 1943 – October 16, 2018
Daniel Knapp, 74, went on to Heaven on October 18, 2018. Since the time that he was diagnosed with stage four cancer, Dan has accepted his diagnosis, fought the fight and looked forward to meeting those who went before him. He is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Alice Gealy Knapp, who both died when Dan was 18. His first wife of 17 years, Nancy passed at 37, and son Douglas, deceased at age 20 in 1987. Sharpsville, Pennsylvania is back home for Dan, he moved to California in 1968. Dan is survived by his only brother Joseph and wife Shirley; a nephew and two nieces and their families. They live in Sharpsville, Pennsylvania. Dan moved to Vacaville, CA. in 1966 and later to Shafter 1990. In Shafter, Ca. Dan is survived by his loving wife Lynne of 34 years, son Curtiss Knapp and wife Sherry and grandchildren CJ and Makena. In addition Dan leaves behind three step children; daughter Stephanie Johnston, her husband Scot, two granddaughters and three grandsons; son Mike Files, two granddaughters; son Chris Files his wife Divina and grandson from San Ramon, California. Following high school in 1961, his career began as a golf caddy and a year/summers working in a steel mill. He went to college with a grant to teach special education; received a Bachelor in Education in 1966, Masters in Education, and Ph.D. in business and personnel functions. His overall career in education exceeded forty years with ten as Superintendent for the Richland School District. Dan taught part time administrative courses at the local University. Following retirement, Dr. Knapp did several interim consulting contracts with many school districts. Dan, a member of the Shafter Kiwanis Club since 1990 served in many capacities with perfect attendance. He also was an avid supporter of Teen Challenge, Kern Mission, VFW and other charities. Love of God, family friends, golf, travel and helping others have been the framework of his life. Dan is forever indebted to a wonderful life that he has had the opportunity to live. It is suggested in lieu of flowers please donate to charity of one's choice.
