Daniel Brice Howard was born March 27, 1924 in Rondo, Arkansas. He worked as a farm hand in Arkansas but when his country called, he entered the US Navy in 1944 attaining the rank of Seaman First Class. Daniel was honorably discharged in 1946 in California where he decided to stay. Daniel married Geraldine Frances Odem October 31, 1949 in Selma. He worked in the oil fields of Avenal then managed the Dos Palos Drive-in Theater for 20 years. Daniel was a member of the Dos Palos Lions Club and served as their Santa Claus every Christmas. Geraldine passed away in 1961 and Daniel moved to the Bakersfield area in 1970. He worked as a gas station mechanic at the Mobile Station at I-5 and Highway 46 in Lost Hills until his retirement. He married Lorraine Howard in 1971 and she passed away 2006. Daniel was also preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Howard in 2005. Daniel's favorite past-time was watching Westerns on TV and spending time with his autistic granddaughter. Daniel is survived by his sons, Danny Howard and wife Lisa of Wasco, William Howard and wife Lora of Bakersfield, Donald Howard of Yuma, Arizona and Terry Howard of Bakersfield; 12 grandchildren 23 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; the last surviving member of his generation, his sister Ann Zack of Hawaii; and a host of other loving family members. A memorial service under the direction of Peters Funeral Home, Wasco will be held Tuesday, September 18, at 10am at the Griffith Avenue Baptist Church for Daniel Brice Howard, age 83, who passed away September 11, 2007 in Delano. Pastor Bill Lewis will officiate the service. Private interment will be held at a later date at Lemoore District Cemetery.
