Cruz was born on September 14, 1939 in Los Ramones, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Lucas and Agapita Garza. He moved into the area as a young man and began working in agriculture. He met and married his wife, Olivia and together they raised their 12 children. Cruz was proud of being a workaholic and providing for his family. On his leisure time; he took pleasure in walking around shirtless, often enjoying a slice of pizza or an ice cream cone. Cruz loved his family, especially his grandchildren, who cherished the moments they played with him. Among time spent with family, Cruz and Olivia always took the opportunity to dance and listen to music. Cruz was a wonderful Father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. Cruz entered eternal life on March 12, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was 76 years old. Cruz is survived by his sons, Rodrigo (Jessica) Garza, David (Amber) Garza, Licinio Peña (Claudia) Garza, Eliel Peña (Daisy) Garza, Cruz Manuel (Amber) Garza, Alejandro Garza, Sammy Garza and Osiel Martinez; daughters, Sonia Peña Garza, Leonora Garza(Leobardo), Elenita Garza Trujillo(Francisco Trujillo), Olivia Peña Garza, Selena Manuela Garza and Arminda Martinez; brother, Gregorio Garza; sisters, Adalia Rivera, Otilia Valdez, Maria De Jesus Hinojosa, Luz Divina Garza; 37 grandchildren and 1 great- grandchild. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Olivia Garza (2008); parents, Lucas and Agapita Garza; brother, Ovidio Garza. A Mass of a Christian Burial was officiated by Father Walter Colocho on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 10am at St. Therese Catholic Church. A viewing was held Monday, March 21, 2016 from 4-8pm at Peters Funeral Home in Shafter, California with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6pm.
