U.S. Marine Cpl. Daniel Graham Kirkpatrick died Jan. 13, 2009, in a motorcycle accident in Salton City while en route from his duty station in Yuma to Twentynine Palms. He was 29. He was born Sept. 25, 1979, in Cottage Grove, Ore., to Thomas Andrew and Judy Therese Moore. Cpl. Kirkpatrick attended elementary and high school in Cottage Grove, and attended ITT Tech in Vancouver, Wash., and Shoreline Community College in Shoreline, Wash. He entered the Marine Corps in 2003, going through recruit training in San Diego before going to the School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton and the Marine Corps Combat Service Support School at Camp Lejeune, N.C. He served with 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, Marine Corps Communications-Electronics School and worked with DEERS during his career, serving one tour of duty in Iraq with 3rd LAR. Shortly before his death, Cpl. Kirkpatrick reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 371 in Yuma. He loved restoring automobiles and motorcycles, and working with computers. He was instrumental in reuniting the Kirkpatrick family and was preparing to leave for the reunion at the time of his death. He was a member of Desert Congregational Church. Cpl. Kirkpatrick is survived by his wife, PatthanaKamnasak Kirkpatrick of Twentynine Palms; son Samuel James Kirkpatrick; parents Thomas and Judy Kirkpatrick; brothers Thomas, David and Micheal, and sisters Heather Kirkpatrick and Heidi Wegand. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25 at the Protestant Chapel aboard the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center. Interment will be at 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 25 at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside.
