Collins Steven Shackelford was born in Paw Paw, Sequoyah County, Oklahoma, to Myrtle (Langford) and William Henry Shackelford, the youngest of 6 children. He grew up in Oklahoma and moved to California at the age of 19. Doc married LaGran Rowland July 2, 1938 and they made Wasco their home. Doc worked in farming as a foreman and then retired after 19 years of service from Wasco High School where he worked in the maintenance department. Doc's family will remember him as a hard worker and loving provider to the family. Doc was preceded in death by his wife LaGran, September 8, 2000; his parents and 5 siblings. He is survived by his daughter Paula Gladden and husband Howard of Wasco; grandchildren, Randy Gladden, Sandy Knox and husband, Ken; 4 great-grandsons, Chad Knox, Ryan Gladden, Justin Gladden and Austin Galdden; a great great-granddaughter, Rylin Gladden; and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service under the direction of Peters Funeral Home will be held at Wasco Memorial Park on Friday, November 12, 2010 at 11 am for Collins Steven "Doc" Shackelford, age 96, of Wasco, who passed away November 7, 2010 in Bakersfield. Pastor Art Fisher will officiate the service and interment will follow. A visitation will be held at Peters Funeral Home on Thursday, November 11, 2010 from 2-8 pm.
