Clay Edward Panter was born October 23, 1927 in Wasco, California to Ed and Bertha (Ratzlaff) Panter. He attended local schools and graduated from Wasco Union High School with the Class of 1945. He was drafted into the Army in 1945 and served in World War II as a clerk for the Chaplin's Division stationed in the Phillipines, earning the rank of corporal before being honorably discharged in 1947. He attended Bakersfield Junior College then went on to graduate from Biola College in 1950. It was at Biola that Clay met the love of his life, Betty Skelton. They were married August 25, 1950 and moved to Wasco in 1951 where Clay began farming. Clay was superintendent of the Pond Sunday School through the American Sunday School Union from 1951 to 1957. He was active in the First Baptist Church for many years and was currently a member of the Grace Community Church of Wasco. He retired in 1989 after 39 years of farming. He was a private pilot and enjoyed flying and traveling. Betty preceded him in death October 14, 2005, and he joined her at home in Heaven. He is survived by his children, Carol Olsen and husband Carl, Greg Panter, Jennifer Nachtigall and husband Terry; grandchildren Amanda Olsen and husband Matthew O'Brien, Daniel Olsen, Stephany Panter, Brittany Panter, Bryant Nachtigall and Sean Nachtigall; siblings, Lorene Nauman, Marvin Panter, Frances Mannino, Adeline Fast, Shirley Wilder, Lillian Kliewer, Wilma Wiebe. His wife, parents and 1 sister Roberta Bentson preceded him in death. A graveside service will be conducted by Peters Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 13, at 11am at Wasco Memorial Park for Clay Edward Panter, age 80, who passed away November 8, in Wasco. In leiu of flowers donations may be made to Hume Lake Christian Camps, Fresno, CA.
