Obituary

Charles Eugene Oliver was born May 8, 1927 in Arkansas to Olen and Eula (Smith) Oliver. He served his country during World War II in the US Army and was honorably discharged. Charles moved to Wasco in 1952 and began working in the Belridge oil fields which later became the Shell Oil Company and he retired in 1982 after 30 years of service. Charles and Betty Nix were married in 1983 and continued to make Wasco their home. Charles was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed going to watch the Dodgers in Los Angeles, but his favorite team was the San Francisco Giants. Charles and Betty lived across the street from the Griffith Avenue Baptist Church and he enjoyed helping with the food distributions. Charles was proud of his military service and was a lifetime member of the Wasco VFW. Charles is survived by his wife of 26 years, Betty Oliver; son, Tom Oliver of Fresno; daughter, Linda McClanahan of Taft; grandchildren, Jarrod McClanahan and wife Kim and their children, Roxanne and Fletcher; and Amanda McClanahan and husband Patrick Copeland; and nephews, Gene, Kenny and Dustin Oliver. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Olen and Eula and brother, Jackie Oliver. A graveside service under the direction of Peters Funeral Home will be held Thursday, April 16, 2009 at 10am at Wasco Memorial Park for Charles Eugene Oliver, age 81, of Wasco who passed away April 12, 2009 in Bakersfield. Pastor Danny Scott of the Wasco Freewill Baptist Church will officiate and interment will follow
