Charles Claffy was born in San Francisco, CA on November 24, 1943 to Joseph and Kathryn Claffy. Charles worked for Pacific Gas and Electric Company as a Senior Meter Shop Forman and retired in 2003. Charles passed away at the age of 71 on the evening of January 6, 2015 in Bakersfield, CA at home with his loving family. Charles grew up in the Santa Cruz area and later settled in Bakersfield with his wife Candace Claffy. Together, they raised their children, Robert and Charlene Claffy, and shared the joy of watching them grow through family gatherings, sport tournaments, band performances, 4-H activities and FFA events. Charles is survived by his wife, Candace Claffy; son Robert Claffy; brother William Claffy; grandchildren, Emily Claffy, Ryan Brown, Jacob Brown and Madison Claffy-Shipp; as well as many other close friends and family. Charles found joy in congregating with old friends over coffee, working on his 66 Mustang with his son and learning and sharing historical knowledge of the past. He was a selfless man who took pride in celebrating others. Charles was a husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend who did everything he could to ensure the happiness of those he loved. His generosity, hard work and kind spirit will be remembered forever and has made an imprint on the lives of many. Charles 'sense of adventure never dwindled. He would often treat his family to unannounced trips for food and fun in far off places, with a twinkle in his eye that couldn't be argued with. Whether it was a road trip to Las Vegas for a hot dog or a ride in the wagon attached to his lawn mower; he always made time for laughter and love. May the light that he's shone on others shine bright in the lives of those he's touched. Charles' viewing and services will be held Saturday January 10, 2015 from Noon to 2pm at Peters Funeral Home located on 844 E. Lerdo Hwy in Shafter. A graveside service will be held thereafter at 2:30pm located at the Shafter Memorial Park on 18662 Santa Fe Way.
