Celia Vergara was born October 11, 1952 in Tegucigalpa, Honduras to Sebastiana (Casco) and Doroteo Martinez. She had been a resident of Lost Hills for 30 years before moving to Bakersfield to live with daughter. Celia worked for Paramount Farms in the packing shed for 25 years. She also worked as a clerk at the gas station at I-5 and Highway 46 and her last job was with Bolthouse Farms. Celia was a hard worker, always taking care of her family and she loved cooking and cleaning. Her family remembers her for being the "best grandma ever". Celia was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Vergara, April 11, 2009; her parents; 1 sister, Maria Elena Martinez; and 1 brother, Dionicio Martinez. She is survived by her 2 daughters, Wendy Martinez and husband Cesar Arellanes of Bakersfield and Vanessa Martinez and husband Hector Magallanes of Wasco; 6 grandchildren, Cynthia and Wendy Hernandez, Jessica Martinez, Hector, Alison and Melanie Magallanes; 2 brothers, Francisco Martinez and Jose Martinez; 5 sisters, Celina Rincon, Julia Sanchez, Maria Antonia Mayorga, Pauline Martinez and Danielle Martinez. Holy Rosary will be recited Sunday, March 3 at 5pm at Peters Funeral Home, Wasco for Celia Vergara, age 60, who passed away in Bakersfield on February 7, 2013 after a 4 year struggle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, March 4, 2013 at 10am at St. John's Church. Fr. John Fluetsch will officiate and interment will follow at Wasco Memorial Park. A visitation will be held Sunday from 2pm to 8pm at Peters Funeral Home.
