Obituary

Catarino L. Arismendez, Jr. was born July 31, 1927 in Del Rio, Texas to Margarita (Lopez) and Catarino L. Arismendez Sr. Catarino went to school in Del Rio and came to Kern County in 1932. He passed away quietly surrounded by his family on June 14, 2009. He enlisted in to the United States Army in 1950, while serving he met and married Virginia (Armenta) in 1951. He was honorably discharged in 1952 as a Staff Sergeant. He and Virginia raised their 10 children in Shafter with much love and laughter. He loved having all of his family over for BBQs and get togethers often. He and Virginia was always seen together, they were inseparable weather it was going out of town, to church or the corner grocery store they were always seen together. He was always busy in his yard, loved the outdoors and was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan, was always surrounded with family members. Catarino's family would like to thank Odessey Hospice for the devoted attention Mary Ann, Claudia, Jasmine and Danielle gave him. A special thanks to sons-in-law, Samuel Santos, Renee Moreno and grandson James, granddaughters, Roxanne and DeVida Trujillo. Catarino was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather, he was well respected and loved by everyone. He will be greatly missed by all. Catarino was preceded in death by his brothers, Trini, Juan, Arismendez; sisters, Maggi,Sofia, Maria, Minni, and Lupe. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Virginia; sons, Albert and wife Irene, Phillip and wife Anna, Victor and wife Cissy, Eddie and wife Toni; daughters, Gloria and husband Johnny, Anita, Lynn, Irma and husband Samuel, Lupe and husband Mark and Nancy; 86 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. There will be a Mass Celebration for Catarino L. Arismendez, Jr., age 81, Friday, June 19, at 10 a.m., at St. Therese's Catholic Church in Shafter. Visitation will be held at Peters Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, June 18th from 2-5:30 p.m., with a Rosary at 6 p.m. at St. Therese's Church. Pallbearers include: Jay Jones, Paul Arismendez, A.J. Arismendez, Arnie Barrera, D.J. Cordero and Elias Martinez, Honorary Pallbearers are Robert Arismendez, James Kates, Javi Marquez, Nathan Kates, Domonic Jones.
