Carroll Ray Cummings was born on December 9, 1926 in Altus, Oklahoma. He arrived in Shafter, California in 1941 where he went on to attend Shafter High School. Ray married Elvina Avants in 1946 and they had three children, Randy, Carol, and Ted. They raised their family in Shafter, California where Ray was very active in the community and in his church. Ray was involved for generations with coaching Little League, Boy Scouts, 4-H and FFA. After Many years in the cattle industry, in 1981 Ray, Elvina Ted and wife, Pam started Cummings Vacuum Service. His hobbies included rodeo, team roping, packing mules into the high country and Dodger baseball games. After retiring from Cummings Vacuum Service, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, Elvina. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife at 68 years, Elvina Cummings; sister LaVerne Hiebert; brother Bill (Jane) Cummings; children, Randy (Carol) Cummings, Carol Unruh, and Ted (Pam) Cummings; grandchildren, Ken (Virginia) Greene, Jason Unruh, Brian (Vanessa) Ogle, Jeff Unruh, Karrie Johnson, Alexandra Cummings; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Rachel, Madelynn, Megan, Andrew, Aron, Jessica and many nieces and nephews. Ray has enriched many lives with his outgoing nature and will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him. The family would like to give a special thank you to Around the Clock Care and Hoffman Hospice. Visitation will be held on Wednesday September 24, 2014 at Peters Funeral Home Chapel in Shafter from 4pm to 8pm. Funeral service will be at the First Southern Baptist Church on Thursday September 25, 2014 at 10am.
