Carolyn Ann LaRue was born in Arkansas on January 31, 1946. She was raised by parents Ed and Altie (Beggs) Cook. In the mid 1950's the family moved to Shafter where Carolyn attended local schools. She married Frenchy LaRue on November 22, 1981 in Bakersfield, CA. She was the proud owner/operator of the Red Wagon Café for 20 years; she was an outstanding cook and took great pride in her work, especially enjoying getting to know most of Shafter through her passion. Every year around Christmas she prepared a customer appreciation dinner, and fed over 500 of her patrons. Often times she would feed the school children waiting for the bus, and she never turned anyone away, if someone needed food, she would help out. Carolyn also worked for 17 years at CalAlmond as a forklift driver. Always a generous woman she gave of her time to Calm, and every year donated supplies to local school children. Carolyn was an honest woman, and you knew where you stood with her. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, George Doles; and her stepson, David LaRue. She is survived by her husband, Frenchy LaRue; son, Vernon Lee; stepchildren, Russell LaRue, Kevin LaRue, Janet and husband Dusty Terry, and Yvone LaRue; sisters, Janie Colbert, Shirley and husband Dwayne Epps; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A visitation for Carolyn will be held at Peters Funeral Home on Sunday, March 27, 2011 from2-8pm. Funeral service will be held at Peters Funeral Home on Monday, March 28, 2011 beginning at 11am. Pastor Dean Long will officiate the service and interment will follow at Shafter Memorial Park.
