IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carmen
Nadal
September 22, 1922 – October 4, 2023
Carmen Nadal passed away on Wednesday, October 4th, 2023, at the age of 101. She was born on September 22nd, 1922, and she was the eldest of eight children of Espiridion Beltran and Maria Antonia Flores. She was predeceased by her husband, Maurice A. Nadal, and one infant daughter, Rosa S. Nadal.
She is survived by daughters: Rita Corona (late husband Jim) of Arleta, CA; Gloria Thomas (husband Milton) of El Cajon, CA; and sons: Frank Nadal (wife Rosemary) of Wasco, CA; and Maurice "Bebe" Nadal (wife Sarah) of Bakersfield, CA; her brother, Frank Beltran (wife Maria) of Wasco, CA; and 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
Carmen was born in a tent on a farm on Scaroni Avenue between the towns of Shafter and Wasco in Kern County. At the time, it was common to drive to town in a horse-drawn buggy and modern conveniences like asphalt roads, gas and electricity in the home were still in the future. She had wonderful stories and memories of growing up during the time of Prohibition and the Great Depression. She learned to be thrifty, frugal, hard-working; she shared these virtues and her love with her large extended family. She always kept in touch with all her family and friends. In her later years, if there was a party planned, she made it a point to attend and invite as many of her nieces, nephews, and family as she could herself.
When taken shopping it was amazing how many in the community she knew, having helped in their homes, and raised many of their children from infants.
Carmen was a loving mother and strong role model for all her children. We will always be thankful for the moral compass that she provided for us. She brought beauty into our lives with her love of flowers, plants, and her small but abundant garden.
