He was born August 4, 1925 in Chili, Oklahoma to the late James Williams (J. W.) and Mary Jessie Hart Fowler. He was in the U.S. Navy during World War II where he served in the Pacific Theater on the USS Ticonderoga. Calvin served as the Chief Procurement Officer in the U.S. Department of Defense. After retiring from that position, he worked as a realtor in California and Tennessee. He attended Hilham Road Freewill Baptist Church. He was a member of Delano Wasco Masonic Lodge #309 F&AM and Al Malaikah Shrine Temple in California. Calvin died suddenly Sunday afternoon May 11, 2014 at Cookeville Tennessee Regional Medical Center. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Patricia "Pat" Ruth Saunders Fowler (whom he married October 29, 1960 in De Leon, Texas); two daughters, Jan Lewis of Bakersfield, CA and Debra Fowler of Sparta; three sons, Jim Fowler of Sparta, Roy Fowler of Algood, and Bill (Tammy) Freeman of Lubbock, TX; six grandchildren, Tina Smartt, Taylor Freeman, Justin Smith, Christopher Smith, Danielle De La Cruz, and Dina Cellini; twelve great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia "Pat" Ann Smith; two sisters, Jewell Cunningham and Ellen Corbin; and four brothers, Johnny, Roy, Ray and James Paul Fowler. Funeral service for Mr. Calvin Youvon Fowler, 88 of Algood, was held on May 15 at 1pm in the Cookeville, Tennessee Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston& Horner Funeral Home. Bro. Greg Wright was the officiator. Graveside service and interment, with Military Honors, was held Monday May 19 at 1pm at Shafter Memorial Park in Shafter California. Calvin's family received friends Wednesday from 5-8pm and Thursday from 12noon until service time at Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home in Cookeville Tennessee.
