After meeting the love of his life, Florence Mathison, they married and moved to Southern California. He retired from the City of South Gate after 33 years as the Superintendent of the City garage. Upon retirement he and his wife relocated to Bakersfield. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Florence, and their daughters, Julie Moe, her husband Charles Moe and children Kayla and Jacob; Carol Smith, her husband Tom Smith, and children Amanda and Kyle; and Bobbie Jo Gollehon, her husband Ernie Gollehon and children Sara and Matthew. Bob had a love of animals, enjoyed tinkering and collecting antique cars, storytelling, and spending time with his six grandchildren. He will be dearly missed. Bob served his country both in the Merchant Marines and during the Korean War in the U.S. Army. He will be laid to rest with honors, Friday, May 13, 2016 at 12:30p.m., at the Bakersfield National Cemetery.
